Extreme Sports Café’s new Windsurfing Centre is located on the Atlantic coast at the southern end of this fun-filled Caribbean island, St. Lucia, facing the full force of the trade winds. As is typical for the entire region, St. Lucia has a tradewind season, which lasts from December through to May, however during June and July there are also some good windsurfing days. There are only a couple of windsurfing locations on the island, which are popular with windsurfing enthusiasts. The main location, and the best spot on the island, is in the South.

Extreme Sports Café now offers Windsurfing Courses on the southeast coast of St Lucia. The volcanic island of St. Lucia is a wild, lush and mountainous Caribbean get-away, made even more desirable by the fact that the south of the island offers some of the world's best conditions for Kite and Windsurfing. On this Atlantic coastline, we find one St Lucia's longest and most unspoilt beaches. Almost two kilometres of soft yellow sand, steady cross-shore winds from the left, a reef-enclosed bay of one by two kilometres, that curves slightly into the wind on the leeward side, make this bay a top location in the Caribbean for Kite and Windsurfers.

A mere fifty steps from the water’s edge – walking through deep, soft, yellow sand - in the shade of white cedar, almond, gum and sea grape trees, you can check out the wind and water conditions, select your gear, while enjoying a frothy hot cappuccino, an icy fruit punch or a thick banana milkshake.

The trade winds blow steadily cross-shore from the left, dropping off slightly (and conveniently!) over lunch. The shore-break is usually mild and only when the wind is really blasting do conditions on the water become choppy – choppy enough for some exciting jumps! On the whole, the bay offers perfect conditions for some serious windsurfing at all levels, from beginners to advanced sailors.

St Lucia has a tropical climate, with an average temperature of 27 degrees Celsius (80.6F) and high humidity. Daytime temperatures vary between 27 and 33 degrees (80.6 to 91.4F) and nighttimes from 24 to 28 degrees (75.2 to 82.4F).

This is because we offer unforgettable hours on the water with great windsurfing conditions, excellent equipment and outstanding service.

The entire windsurfing/sailing area in the bay is safe and sandy-bottomed so you can windsurf barefoot. The launch area is also free of anything 'nasty' underfoot, with negligible shore-break towards the upwind end of the bay. Further downwind the shore-break can be more challenging, particularly when the winds have been consistently high for a few days. There may also be more swell and chop towards the centre of the bay at these times. During the winter months (Dec-Mar) a 'shortie' wetsuit or lycra top is useful against sunburn.

Windsurfing Notes:
• Facilities on our Windsurfing beach include restaurants, toilet and beach facilities (loungers, beach umbrellas etc).
• There is also safety-boat cover operated by Extreme Sports Café’s Windsurfing Centre.
• Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) is just a 2-minute drive away from our Windsurfing beach with direct flights from many destinations worldwide.
• Most major airlines fly into UVF airport. Charles Airport in Castries (SLU) is on the 'wrong' side of St Lucia about 1.15 hours' drive away.
• Extreme Sports Cafe can also help with Airport transfers.
• All prices are in US$ unless stated otherwise.

• There are two uninhabited islets ('Maria major' and 'Maria minor’) located approximately 1km offshore. These form a nature reserve administered by the St. Lucia National Trust. You may arrange for a guided tour at the National Trust office, but windsurfers are asked not to land on the islets without prior permission.
