The
big variety of landscapes and climates in Western Australia
means there is always plenty of sunshine, making it a perfect
year-round destination.
It is a land blessed with spectacular diversity where the
deep reds of ancient interior rock formations contrast with
the sparkling blue of the Indian and Southern Oceans and
the lush greenery of the stunning southern regions.
Western Australia is famous for its long days of sunshine,
spotless blue skies and brilliant beaches.
Extreme
Sports Café’s partner Western Australian Surfing
School offers two distinct options to give you a great introduction
to surfing at beautiful locations that are the easiest,
safest and coolest places to learn in Australia: Lancelin
and Wedge Island.
Lancelin
is a small fishing town nestled between
the ocean and sand dunes, just over an hours drive or 130km
north of Perth. The town stretches
along the edge of a natural bay, which is protected from
the Indian Ocean by outer reefs and islands. The protected
waters of the bay are ideal for water sports and water activities
dominate the town’s leisure activities. Lancelin is
a surfing and watersport Mecca - perfect for your first
introduction to surfing.
Wedge Island
is located 160 kilometres north of Perth near the town of
Cervantes. Cervantes is a little Cray fishing, holiday town
that is often very windy and so attracts windsurfers to
Thirsty Point. The geography of the area is coastal sand
dunes and bush land with beaches accessible only to four-wheel
drive vehicles. Wedge Island has some of the best coastal
stretches of Western Australia. We go to spots where there
are no crowds whatsoever and a wicked 4WD trip along the
beach to get you there.
The Lancelin tour ranges from Surfing Daytrips to 5-Day
Surf Camps. It's a great day out and we get you surfing
on your first day.
Want something a bit more? Upgrade to a full-blown surfing
Odyssey and come with us to Wedge Island. Accessible by
4WD only, the waves at Wedge Island break further out giving
you a longer, smoother ride. Master the art of surfing faster
and easier in the isolated beauty of Wedge Island.

back' and take off on a forming wave a whole lot easier.

Surfing FAQ's - Surfing Lancelin - Surfing Wedge Island |
I've
never surfed before. Will this tour be suitable?
Our Learn to Surf tours are specifically aimed at those
with little or no surfing experience whatsoever. We will
guide you every step of the way with expert tuition. Our
aim is to get you not just standing but actually surfing.
What should I bring with me?
Generally you should pack just as if you were going to the
beach - as lightly as possible. Do bring jeans and a jumper
however as it can get windy. Bring sunnies, some water,
and camera. We provide all surfing equipment, wetsuits and
rashies, all meals as specified on your tour of choice,
and sunscreen.
I'm a vegetarian/have a food allergy.
Is this a problem?
Not a problem at all. Simply let us know in advance and
we'll cater for your needs.
I've got my own wetsuit/surfboard.
Can I bring it along?
That's fine. Just advise us in advance so we can allocate
space on the vehicle for it. Also, we can give advice whether
your surfboard will be suitable for the waves in your surfing
location.
I've been surfing a while...will
this tour be aimed entirely at beginners?
Although our Learn to Surf tour is primarily aimed at total
beginners, our instructors can teach more advance surfing
techniques for the intermediate surfer such as catching
unbroken waves, trimming and turning.
Are the waves any good for an intermediate
surfer?
The waves we surf are generally chest high but can climb
to shoulder or head high out the back.
*All
prices are in Australian Dollar unless stated otherwise. |

of our Surfing courses/tours can be booked on line. |

Visitors
to Western Australia will quickly see why surfing is such
a popular sport on this side of the country.
The combination of warm weather, consistent swells, spectacular
beaches and reliable breezes create the perfect conditions
for surfing and other water sports such as windsurfing. One
of the great appeals is that the surf is exceptional and
still relatively unknown, promising awesome waves.
Lancelin in the Perth area is an exposed reef break that
has pretty consistent surf and can work at any time of the
year. There is a right hand reef break. Best around mid
tide. Offshore winds blow from the east. Distant groundsewlls
are received and the optimum swell angle is from the west
southwest.
For safety in the water a good helmet can be used - Gath.
At Wedge Island you can find more beautiful beaches and
great surf as it is less reef protected, and even more wind.
