Extreme Sports Café has teamed up with the only Snowkiting centre in the Southern Hemisphere to offer students the chance to learn Snowkiting, in an accredited IKO (International Kiteboarding Associations) training centre. So you have the peace of mind that you’re being taught by professional instructors and you’ll be using the latest and safest equipment.

The opportunities are endless and the best news is it’s easy to learn and amazing fun. Depending on what takes your fancy Snowkiting has it all;

Cruiser? Unused flat snow covered fields now become your playground, you can either just cruise around enjoying that unique feeling of harnessing the elements or bust some big air! You choose how extreme you want to make it.

Big Air Freestlyer? If airtime is what you’re after then look no further, some of the jumps that boarders and skiers are pulling under the power and security of power kites are simply breath taking.

Backcountry Powder Junkie? Fancy getting to those hard to reach spots? Well now you have your own personal lift system. Snowkiting can open up endless backcountry potential. Don’t fancy the hike up a hill, then let the kite power you up, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of being powered up a hill by the wind. When you’re at the top just pack the kite away and head back down through that untracked powder.

Speed Freak? If you have a need for speed then Snowkiting will give you your fix. Speeds of over 70kmph have been recorded.

Common to all Snowkiting courses with Extreme Sports Cafe in Queenstown, New Zealand.

• Snowkiting Courses cost $75/hour per person.
• Includes all Snowkiting equipment and transport to location.

A session designed to get you up and running as quickly as possible so you can get a taste of what this new sport’s all about.

Courses follow the IKO syllabus and train you to become a safe and independent Snowkiter. Courses cover all areas of the sport from kite flying and riding techniques, equipment, weather, site assessments and jumping techniques.

For existing Snowkiters, we offer advanced training/clinics. Top instructors including ex-British Big Air champion Lee Trevarthen are on hand to help you nail that elusive trick.

Aimed at students who have completed basic snowkiting training or existing Snowkiters who wish to come along for a day’s Snowkiting.
Using the same training grounds as our regular snowkiting courses. Depending on student ability there is the option to use more technical areas. Tours are subject to student numbers and weather conditions. Please enquire for more details.

Only suitable for competent Snowkiters. We’ll check your level before signing you up for the tour. Prepare for an amazing experience!

Local Heli guide and Snowkiter Nick Grant leads the tour into some of New Zealand’s most amazing scenery. Available options are Glacier and Backcountry.

Heli tours will vary in length from 1 - 4 days. Please enquire for more details.

IKO offers a reliable and professional training program. Instructors become IKO certified by attending the 5 days Instructor Training Course (ITC). IKO certified Kiteboarding instructors benefit from the possibility to do a shorter course. The training program corresponds precisely to snow kite-teaching methods. The certification is recognised by the International Kiteboarding community as the international standard in teaching.
At the end of the training, you will have developed abilities in the following major areas: Safety, practical, environment, analysis, technique, teaching psychology and live situations.
After attending an ITC and having reached the required level, you will be qualified as an IKO Instructor level.

The kites which we use for teaching snowkiting in some of our locations are Frenzy '05 made by Ozone. These kites are extraordinary because they offer such high performance on the snow. The third generation of their design means that they have been perfected to give you many more features and enhanced control and safety whilst snowkiting.

The Frenzy '05 is the top of the range from Ozone traction kites. These kites are 4 line kites and come with control bar security system, brake and trimmer.

We suggest that if you have your own board for skiing or snowboarding then bring that. You will be used to it and that will help with the learning process when you start snowkiting. However, if you don't have your own we have plenty for you to choose from and will lend you one gladly.
