"RYA National Powerboat Scheme"

Welcome to the sport of power boating. The RYA National Powerboat Scheme exists to meet the needs of those who use small, open powerboats for sport, whether for their own sake or in connection with another activity such as sailing, scuba diving, kite surfing or water skiing. The RYA National Powerboat Scheme is applicable to sports boats, RIBs, dories, launches and other boats that do not normally provide accommodation or cooking facilities.

Extreme Sports Cafe's centers in the south of the UK is a fully approved RYA powerboat and first aid training centre, with top classroom and on water facilities. It has a range of boats available for you to use to give you a full range of boat handling skills and working applications.

Extreme Sports Cafe has many coastal locations which provide the perfect environment for learning power-boating skills.

We also have access to all kinds of water craft. Traditional RIBs, Sports RIBs, Speed Boats and the new and hugely successful Zapcats.

Having access to open sea, tidal estuary conditions and close quarters dockside areas is essential to building a comprehensive set of skills for handling powered water craft. All of our courses are run in the appropriate conditions.

During these courses you will progressively learn the essential skills needed for all aspects of owning and using a powerboat safely.

Extreme Sports Cafe is also an operational rescue centre site and specialises in safety boat training and in particular kite surf rescue and Zap Cat rescue boat training. In this area Extreme Sports Cafe and it's partner centers are at the forefront of development and work closely with the RNLI, RYA and Zap Cat in introducing these courses.

These courses are divided between theory and practical tuition and are designed for those people with little or no experience.

Introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.

Suggested minimum pre-course experience: None
Assumed Knowledge: None.
Minimum age 12; Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued an endorsed certificate.
Course Content: Launching and preparing the boat, basic boat handling and returning to shore. Background theory.
Ability After Course: Able to drive under supervision
Minimum Duration: 1 day

"The RYA National Powerboat Certificate."

Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

Suggested minimum pre-course experience: None.
May be preceded by Level 1
Assumed Knowledge: None.
Minimum age 12; Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued an endorsed certificate.
Course Content: All you need to know for self-sufficient power boating at a basic level. Course includes launching, mooring, anchoring and recovery plus all the boat driving skills required for basic competence in a powerboat.
Ability After Course: Self-sufficient in a powerboat in the right conditions: aware of your own limitations and those of your craft.
Minimum Duration: 2 days when preceded by Level 1

Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

Covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters, using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques

Two days - £185.00

Course for leisure and professional boaters wanting to undertake more adventurous trips in small powerboats.
Two days including at least one night navigation exercise.

Assumed Knowledge: Minimum age 17.
Candidates should be competent to the standard of the National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 (coastal) with a knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level of Day Skipper Shore based certificate.
Course Content: Includes pillage, navigation and boat handling techniques for planing boats on coastal waters by day and night.
Ability After Course: Able to plan and execute coastal trips including return to a familiar port by night.
Minimum Duration: Two days including at least one evening night navigation.

Two day course for those who use powerboats to provide support and safety cover for other watersports such as sailing, kitesurfing, windsurfing and canoeing. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. As well as Extreme Sports Cafe's specialism in Kite Surf rescue.

Suggested minimum pre-course experience: Competent to Level 2 Powerboat.
Assumed Knowledge: Minimum age 16.
Basic understanding of sailing boats.
Course Content: Boat handling, rescue techniques for sailing dinghies, windsurfers and canoes, and tows.
Ability After Course: Able to provide safety cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing.
Minimum Duration: 2 days.

A new course that has been developed by Extreme Sports Cafe and it's partners in conjunction with the RYA and RNLI for safety boat drivers to be able to cope with the fastest growing water sport, should they get in trouble. Also cover setting up safe areas for kite surfers in conjunction with other water users for multi-activity locations. This adds as an endorsement to your current RYA safety boat licence.

Specialised water based scenario training course to support any basic first aid qualification. Realistic first aid application and casualty recovery from safety-boat situations. A must for any instructor or safety boat driver whom's first aid has only taken place in the classroom.

A specialist water orientated first aid course for anyone working or playing in that environment. The course covers all the normal first aid from CPR, control of bleeding, shock, fractures and breaks, chronic conditions, but then takes you through the more specific elements of first aid on the water.

An introduction to the electronic world of navigation, Global position System or GPS. Use and types of GPS, navigation via way points, plotting position and passage planning. Classroom and on-water course.
Four hour course - £50

Improve on those introduction skills that you picked up in your initial powerboat training with our basic navigation course. Covers the basics of chart use, positioning, buoys and beacons, planning a passage, steering a course and pilotage.
