SFAT - Sport Flying Association Thailand. This Association is dedicated to the safety and promotion of Ultralight, Paragliding, Paramotoring and General Aviation in Thailand.
The associations President, Khun Niwat, works very closely with the Thai DCA to follow the rules and to operate Ultralight, Paragliding, Paramotoring and General Aviation aircraft safely in Thailand. Thailand is the leading country in Southeast Asia in promoting the use of General Aviation aircraft for sport and personal use.

Remember to keep Paragliding Safe and fun you should not fly unsupervised until you have completed and gained your Para 1 & 2 rating (Novice Pilot)...

Paragliding in Thailand - Rayong

The aim of Extreme Sports Cafe's partner Paragliding School is to teach the skills and attitude required to safely enjoy the sport of paragliding.
All new paragliding students start their course in Rayong, Thailand.
Our training hill here is one of the best in the nation with gentle unobstructed slopes, and a road to the top. Enjoy kiting the glider at the top of our hill with a view of the South of Thailand. The hill provides consistent conditions for teaching our students the skills, and insights needed to become a paraglider pilot.
Safety and a focus on developing paragliding fundamentals will help provide you with a great start and a more secure future in the sport of Paragliding.

Rayong is located on the Gulf of Thailand 70km south-west of Pattaya, and 190km from Bangkok. The surrounding area produces some fine fruit, especially pineapple and durian. Each year during May the city plays host to a fruit fair. A late bloomer, the province is well known for its pristine beaches stretching along a 100-kilometer coastline and scenic waterfalls amidst exotic surroundings.

We start out all new paragliding students at Rayong, Thailand. Our training hill is one of the best in the nation with gentle unobstructed slopes, and a road to the top. The hill provides consistent conditions for teaching our students the skills, and insights needed to become a paraglider pilot. Paragliding Tandem Flights

Tandem Flight Experience - $80US ($100US on weekends)
Have you ever stood at the top of a hill overlooking the valley below and wondered what it would be like to fly?


Now you can experience the joy of a personal, foot-launched flight in its purest form - on a paraglider! This is a great way to experience the beauty of flight with minimal commitment on your part.
We will hook you in with one of our qualified tandem instructors for a fun-filled flight and great learning experience with fantastic views too. For Tandems we use a larger canopy designed to carry the weight of two people. Each pilot has their own harness and the two pilots are connected together by spreader bars. The passenger is seated in front of the flight instructor in a very comfortable padded harness, which allows a full-unobstructed view of the flight.A Paragliding Tandem is a great way to see the beautiful landscape of Thailand from altitude and in serene silence...This is a great gift idea too!

Certified Paragliding Courses - Thailand - Rayong

Paragliding Introduction Package --$400US
This Paragliding course is designed as an introduction to the sport that will enable you to make an educated decision regarding paragliding and you.

This Paragliding course can be done over 4/5 days which will allow you to delve a bit deeper into experiencing the magic of piloting a paraglider, plus allow you to complete the first phase of certified training.
This program includes Tandem Paragliding flight, introduction to the paraglider and associated equipment, basic weather information, and ground handling that will lead to your first solo flights.
Successful graduates of this Paragliding program will be certified as SFAT Beginner Pilot (Para 1) and authorized to fly only under instructor supervision and instructor radio contact.
The Paragliding course includes use of equipment, manual, logbook and transportation to/from the flying site.

Accommodation is available for around 800THB per day.

Full Certification Paragliding Flight Package--$800US
Become a solo novice pilot......
This is our most popular Paragliding package and is also suitble for the serious buding pilot and combines both the Para 1 and Para 2 packages.

This Paragliding course is done over 8 days. (weather permitting) You will learn to inflate, kite, run, launch fly and land the paraglider wing yourself. You will also learn how to layout your wing, do a preflight check, be at ease with both forward and reverse launches, learn to control your wing through turns, mild turbulence and much more…..
This Paragliding course is intended to teach you how to be a safe and confident pilot. Instruction and practice will prepare you to decide how and when to fly your paraglider without the direct supervision of your instructor.
On this paragliding course you will also gain the skills and flight time/experience needed to fly safely at most paragliding sites. Successful graduates of this program will be certified as SFAT Novice Pilot and authorized to fly without the direct supervision of their instructor.

The Paragliding course includes accommodation; use of equipment, manual, logbook and transportation to/from the flying site.

Para 3 Certification Paragliding - $600US
You may sign up and begin working on your PARA 3 rating any time after you receive your PARA 2 rating.

An Intermediate pilot is truly a "pilot", able to fly most sites in mild to moderate soaring conditions and to judge when the site and conditions are within their skill, knowledge and experience level. In this course you will fly more demanding sites and conditions, and perfect such techniques as thermal flying, side-hill landings, top-landings, and high-wind launches. We will take you as far as you want to go.
* $400 discount for any of our former Full Certification Pilots currently flying a glider purchased new from the Rayong School….

If for some reason the conditions are inappropriate, we may adjust the meeting time and/or location for your Paragliding course, or we may reschedule to a mutually convenient time.Paragliding works on a certification system.

Paragliding Rating System

Paragliding is one of the few sports that can offer the freedom of the skies to soar like birds floating on thermals that take you places unimaginable on the ground, one of the other major reasons for the sports popularity is the ease in which you can learn and the compact nature of the equipment.

Pilots receive ratings throughout their flying career that should reflect the pilot skill level.
Para 1: Beginner Pilot:
Student can only fly under instructor supervision and instructor radio contact.
Para 2: Novice Pilot:
Student is now considered to be a fully fledged pilot and can fly solo at most sites nationally.
Para 3: Intermediate Pilot:
Student has now passed a number of flight requirements and has many logged hours of flight. You are considered a competent pilot and can fly almost every site safely.
Para 4: Advanced Pilot:
This level is gained only by experience,logging hours and flights, also acquiring a good deal of knowledge regarding weather and FAA regulations. You may also enrol in a certification course to gain your tandem rating.

Rayong - Thailand - Paragliding

Aside from this, Rayong is blessed with an abundance of seafood products such as shrimp paste, fish sauce and dried seafood, and tropical fruits of which rambutan, mangosteen and durian are the most famous.
Boasting indispensable sea-life resources, Rayong is one of the country's major agricultural and industrial provinces. On the other hand, the province has maintained its traditions and customs in the daily lifestyle of the locals. The climate in Rayong is tropical, generally warm and humid with abundant rainfall, average temperature is around 28 degrees C.
Best months to visit are from November through February.

Paragliding Notes - Rayong -Thailand

• We are flexible with scheduling Paragliding courses and can do both weekend and or mid-week days.
• We are unique in that we offer instruction in both Southern and Central Thailand which gives you a broader view of paragliding, various sites, and the various weather conditions that go along with these different areas. Which paragliding site we choose will depend on the weather and the current learning objectives.
• The goal will be for you to complete your SFAT (Sport Flying Association Thailand) Novice Flight Certification, and allow you to gain as much comfort and knowledge as possible.
• The Paragliding School will provide all Paragliding technical equipment required for the course. Included in your Full Paragliding package price is a paragliding tee shirt, Paragliding manual and Paragliding logbook.
• You can also take advantage of some significant discounts when purchasing your own equipment for us.
• You will need to sign up for full membership to the T.G.C. **(Thailand Glider Club) in order to complete your training and gain the SFAT rating, although any specific SFAT rating will depend on the individual pilots proficiency.
• We ask that you provide at least ten days notice if you need to cancel or we may have to charge you for the days that you signed up for.

** Membership to the TGC is compulsory if you want to fly at some sites in Thailand. It is not necessary to join for all the flying sites BUT it is strongly recommended to do so. To fly in Petchaburi and any new sites that TGC are developing you have to be a member.
With your membership you will get contact telephone numbers of people to contact in case of Emergencies or Landing disputes, access to TGC sites and future sites and a very nice membership card.
(All sites in Thailand are near impossible to access &/or fly without gaining assistance from local pilots.)

When you join the TGC you will be given a choice of 3 month, 1 year or Lifetime membership options.

All funds raised from the TGC memberships are directed back into paragliding through site development and upkeep.

Every member will receive a "Member Kit" consist of:
1.Member Card.
2."TGC" Logo' Sticker.
3.Contour Map of Flying Sites.
4.One "TGC" Pilot's Logbook.

Thailand Glider Club
Thailand Glider Club is a voluntary run organisation dedicated to improving Paragliding and Hangliding activities, for locals and visitors, within the Kingdom of Thailand.
The club was formed in 1988 from a few pioneering Thai pilots, Namely Suwat Hannarong (The first to fly a paraglider in Thailand) and Narint Lohathong (the second) plus a few other helpers, who have discovered all the flying sites now in Thailand. Now TGC hosts a President, Vice-presdent, secretary and various other officials. By 2005, the club had over 50 flying local/visiting members.
TGC is liasing with Sport Flying Association Thailand (SFAT) who in turn report to Department of Aviation. In the future, when funds are available, TGC hopes to join the FAI
The club is currently working on a qualification scheme for student pilots that will be internationally recognised and there are plans for the first offical TGC school, clubhouse and shop.

You will appreciate the concern for safety and the focus on developing paragliding fundamentals that will help provide you and many more with a more secure future in the sport. Enjoy kiting the glider at the top of our hill with a view of the South of Thailand.

soaring in loeyA northerly facing ridge about 3km is easy to drop onto from the north east facing take off. Hills form most of the surrounding terrain.

There is a good road to take off.

You MUST report to the Forestry office half way up the road before you fly. No site fees to pay!

A good site for the prevailing northerly winter wind.

Sik Hiu Khoa Sadao

paragliding khoa sadaoKhoa Sadao is one of the best cross country flying sites in Thailand. The take off area is situated in the middle of a 5 km 'bowl' shaped south facing ridge.

This ideal topography allows pilots plenty of soaring time to get the right thermals from the flatlands in front.

Ample landing areas, the facilities of a local golf complex and beautiful scenery make this a great paragliding site.

Petchaburi Khoa Dan

paragliding petchaburiPetchaburi is the most recent site to be opened in Thailand, It is also the nearest flying site to Bangkok. There are ridge/hills to the North and South with flatlands to the East. People fly all weekends and you must join the TGC to fly there (Membership available on launch) daily flying charge 100 baht (privatly owned hill).

Rayong offers a very long beach for paramotor beachcombing, great in the early evening.

Rayong also offers some good training and winching areas.
