The Andes are by no means the only region to visit in Peru. Also of great interest is Peru's narrow, lowland coastal region, a northern extension of the Atacama Desert. Although the Atacama is generally known as the most arid region on the planet, the climate along Peru's shores is made cooler and less dry by La Garuùa, a dense fog created by the collision of the frigid waters of the Humboldt Current with the heated sands of the Atacama. Lima, Trujillo, and Chiclayo, three of Peru's major population centres, are located along this coastal region.

Lima is the capital of Peru, and it used to be the capital of the richest Spanish viceroyalty of South America. It is the most important city of the country and was first called "City of the Kings".. It is a political, economical and cultural centre.

Lima has brilliant sunshine from December to May, when humidity goes up to 70 percent. The year-round temperature is characterized by a spring-like mildness. From June to November Lima's physical atmosphere is slightly dreamlike the weather becomes cloudy and humidity reaches 90 percent mostly because of the La Garuùa; a mist that settles over the city between May and October.

Extreme Sports Café have teamed up with a Paragliding School in Peru. Extreme Sports Café’s Paragliding School is located in an upscale district of Lima, known for its restaurants, shops and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean; perfect and amazing landscape views for flying Paragliders over.

The Peruvian Association of Free Flight (APVL) recognizes Extreme Sports Café’s Peruvian Paragliding School. For instruction we use Paragliders, which are very safe and easy to fly. They are designed with the student in mind.

The director of Extreme Sports Café’s Peruvian Paragliding School is Michael Fernández, who is a Peruvian/North American pilot. He has been flying paragliders since 1991 and has over 4500 hours of free flight and more than 500 hours of motorized flights since 1995. He was first licensed in the USA and is now licensed in Peru by the Peruvian Association of Free Flight (APVL) as a Tandem Pilot and has Paragliding Instructor ratings. His dedication and enthusiasm for paragliding has made him a very experienced Paragliding and motorized Paragliding pilot.

Requirements for all Paragliding Courses/Experiences with Extreme Sports Cafe in Peru..

• Min Age: 14 years old (with parents signed permission)
• Physically able.
• High-top boots.

Tandem Paragliding Flight Experience $50US per person

Paragliding Tandem flights can be done at Extreme Sports Café’s Peruvian Paragliding School all year round, flying over the beautiful Costa Verde region Lima, Peru. Paragliding flights are 10 to 15 minutes long and you have an experienced instructor with you for the whole flight. It is the easiest and safest way to feel the thrill of soaring like a bird. No experience needed. A simple safety briefing, a few steps and you’re airborne, flying in a Paraglider. Be sure to bring your camera!

Large group bookings welcome.

(The tandem flights are also introductory flights to our Paragliding Basic Course)

Duration of Tandem Paragliding Experience - 1/2 Day.

Paragliding Course Cost - US$50.00 per person.

One Day Paragliding Course $100US per person

Experience paragliding flight in a simple and safe way. You will be taught the basics about Paragliding techniques and Paragliding safety.

This 1-Day Paragliding course includes:

• 5 solo glides on a small dune in Lurin (south of Lima) without obstacles, under the supervision of an instructor.
• 1 Paragliding Tandem flight over Costa Verde or Pachacamac.
• Transports to the flying sites.

We depart for the 1-Day Paragliding Courses each morning at 8:30am.

Paragliding Course Cost - US$100 per person.

Beginner Paragliding (Elementary) Pilot Course 6-8 Days $480US per person

In this Beginner Paragliding Pilot Course you will learn the basic techniques of flight, aerodynamic and meteorological principles that allow for free flight. You will learn about Paragliding flight equipment and the best way to care and use it. At the end of the course, you will be able to make independent flights safely, under the supervision of a Paragliding instructor, being able to identify the most suitable conditions for the flight. This course includes 6-8 practical Paragliding classes and 3 theoretical classes.

For the first two days, we go to the dunes in Lurin, at the south of Lima, where you will learn how to take off, turn and land Paragliders.

Next we will go up into the mountains, to the Valley of Pachacamac, where you will apply the Paragliding techniques you have already learned for thermal conditions.

Paragliding Tandem flights will be used to give you greater understand and you will learn more about ground handling, take off, manoeuvres and precise landings for Paragliding.

During your Paragliding flights, an instructor using a radio will always guide you and be in contact with you.

This Paragliding course includes all the equipment that you may need and:

• 6-8 practical classes and 3 theoretical, which can be taken any day of the week.
• Use of Paragliding Equipment: Paraglider, Harness, Helmet and Radio.
• Flight manual. (Paragliding)
• Transport to the different flying sites.

Paragliding Course Cost - US$480 per person.

Paragliding is a weather dependent sport therefore Paragliding Flights will/can only be done if the weather conditions are right for paragliding. (Wind direction, intensity,.)

Money
Peru's currency is the Nuevo Sol (S/.). One Nuevo Sol is broken down into 100 céntimos (cents).

Banknotes currently circulating include 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10 Nuevos Soles, while there are coins for 1, 2 and 5 Nuevos Soles and 50, 20, 10 and 5 cents.

Credit cards are accepted and used in Lima, American Express, Visa, Dinners club and Master Card…. US Dollars are commonly accepted in most hotels, stores and supermarkets in Lima as well.

Health for Paragliding..

In any case, if you suffer from heart problems or epilepsy or any other medical condition, which may cause difficulty you should certainly consult your doctor first.

Expect to be asked about health matters before you sign on at our paragliding training school. Piloting and drugs do not mix. Your instructor will not let you fly if you have consumed alcohol that day, or if they suspect that you have taken drugs.
