Extreme Sports Café is please to offer Tandem Paragliding experiences and Paragliding course in Kamshet, set amongst rugged hills, lush fields and serene lakes this beautiful hilly area has an altitude of 2200 feet. The weather is pleasant and the large pristine lakes add to the untouched beauty of the area. Kamshet is 11 kilometres away from the twin hill stations of Khandala & Lonavala and is easily accessible from Mumbai (Bombay) and Pune by road and rail.
Green fields, sunlit lakes, rolling hills, ancient cave temples, medieval forts and a number of great flying sites in the vicinity make this area the ideal adventure base for us. We have discovered a variety of sites within the area suited for training, hobby pilots and the more adventurous pilots. The hospitality and warmth of the village people have aided our exploration activity and enriched our experience. Our efforts have helped develop this area into a ‘Paragliding Stronghold’ frequented by pilots of all abilities from all over the world. Extreme Sports Café’s new partner Paragliding Centre has been based in the lake-district of Kamshet, only 3 hours from Mumbai (Bombay) since 1996. Our Indian Paragliding Centre is run by a core team of dedicated pilots, adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers and supported by an extended family of frequent visitors and well-wishers from across the world. The goal is to promote the sport of paragliding by offering safe, standardized training and an encouraging atmosphere to all who want to give the sport a try. "We are committed to promoting Kamshet as an adventure tourism destination, maintaining the flying sites in the region as well as preserving its natural beauty and ecological balance for future generations". The paragliding sites are flyable between November and June. Extreme Sports Cafe's activities here in Kamshet, India cover paragliding training courses, site explorations, introductory tandem flights and paragliding holidays.

We offer you more than just a paragliding course – besides learning to fly in a peaceful environment you get a chance to unwind in nature and discover your sense of peace and blessedness.
Please note: We are conservative in our training programs and teaching on bunny slopes, tandem flights or High mountain sites is done only in Ideal conditions. Safety is our main concern and we are reliant on good weather conditions for safe progression of individuals in their training. Our area is fortunate enough to have the best all year round climate in the country with light to moderate winds most of the year round, so fly able days are plentiful.

Sanjay Roa has been in and around Kamshet for the past 10 years. In 1996 he discovered free flight and set up the Paragliding Centre with the idea of developing the area for flying. His knowledge of the area and his relationship with the local people has been instrumental in opening up the area for flying to the Paragliding community. He has lived most of his life in Bombay but his family hails from South India where he spent a few years studying engineering. Sanjay speaks the local languages. His friends know him to be a great cook, a good organizer and a party animal

Tandem Paragliding Flight Experience €40 per person

Paragliding Tandem flights can be done without any prior training or experience.You too can fly like a pro for 10 to 15 minutes letting you experience a long flight above the beautiful hills and fields, soaring with eagles high above the cliffs. You don't need to be very fit or sporty, depending on the site we can take pretty much anybody! A simple safety briefing, a few steps and you’re airborne, flying in a Paraglider. Be sure to bring your camera!

Tandem flights use a wing large enough to hold two people, a pilot / instructor and a passenger. Each person has their own harness, which are attached together, with the passenger in front, and the pilot right behind.

Duration of Tandem Paragliding Experience - 1/2 Day.

Tandem Paragliding Experience - €40.00 per person.

Three Day Paragliding Course €250 per person

Experience paragliding flight in a simple and safe way. You will be taught the basics about Paragliding techniques and Paragliding safety.

This Paragliding course is aimed at people looking for a one time experience of free flight. If you don’t have 2 weekends to spare or 5 days for the Full beginner Paragliding course and are just dying to fly solo attend our 3-day Paragliding program and achieve your dream of free flight.
Day one will see you kiting the glider and understanding the basics, day 2 will have you skimming the slopes and day 3 will be reserved for as many solos as your energies and the wind gods permit.
Rating: None.
Eligibility: Anyone above 16 years of age can register for this Paragliding course provided you do not have a previous history of heart disease, major back ailments or blackouts. Reasonable physical fitness is an asset although a sportive attitude would hold you in good stead too.

Paragliding Course Cost - €250 per person.

Beginner Paragliding (Student Pilot) Course €400 per person

For those who are sure they want to fly solo. If you have the desire to learn how to fly, then this is the course for you. It is ideal for a first timer who wants a good solid basis in which to learn this exciting sport. It will provide you with the first structured training enabling you to fly under the direct supervision of an instructor.
Practical training covers a large part of this course and by the second day you will begin flying solo. Paragliding safety and theory is taught before and after flights. We use extremely beginner friendly wings to give you the best start to Paragliding, you can possibly get.
Including: Theory classes, Course material, Log book, Theory exam, (multiple choice) equipment usage, site charges, 2 day ground and small slope flights, 3 day ground and hill flights, Radio instruction, 4 nights and 5 days dorm accommodation, site transportation and meals at the guest house. (Meals in restaurant are not included)
Rating: Student Pilot.

Novice Paragliding (Club Pilot) Course €400 per person

For beginner pilots who wish to take up the sport as a hobby.
This is an important level to aim for if you intend to continue with the sport. This course is designed to keep you soaring for extended periods. Plenty of time is devoted to airtime experience and we go over the basic theory of aerodynamics, site selection, rules of the air weather and safety.
You learn how to soar, practice manoeuvres, altitude and glide judgment, & emergency skills. Radio supervision is provided for your comfort and safety. By the end of this course you should be confident to fly and practice without direct instructor supervision but within significant operating limitations. You now have the added status of 'Weekend Recreational Pilot'.
Rating: Club Pilot.
Eligibility: Be a beginner pilot, having done the course done in any part of the world, log of flights and tasks completed. Having completed your Paragliding beginner course you are guaranteed to want to learn more and expand your horizons.

Paragliding Course Cost - €400 per person.

Intermediate Paragliding ( Pilot) Course €400 per person

For novice pilots looking to upgrade their skills and fly competently on their own.
This Paragliding level equates to skills and techniques required to fly competently by yourself. During this Paragliding course the pilot gains the knowledge and skills to fly most sites in mild to moderate soaring conditions, and to judge when the site and conditions are within the pilot’s skill; knowledge; and experience level.

Rating: Pilot.
Eligibility: A novice pilot rating with a minimum of 25 logged flights.

Paragliding Course Cost - €400 per person.

Paragliding is a weather dependent sport therefore Paragliding Flights will/can only be done if the weather conditions are right for paragliding. (Wind direction, intensity,.)

Being situated 2000 ft above sea level the weather at Kamshet is comparatively cool.
Coolest weather lasts from November to mid-March, with cool, fresh mornings and evenings and dry, sunny days.
Really hot weather, when it is dry & dusty is between April and June although even at midday if you are in the shade the breeze makes the heat bearable and the mornings and evenings are definitely pleasant. Long evening flights until the late sunset more than makes up for afternoon the heat.
Monsoon rains occur between June and September.

The guesthouse we use is located in an isolated position overlooking the serene Vadivali lake. This sensitively designed 'home' for nature lovers and horizon gazers, has a spacious, contemporary Indian motif. Planned to effectively use the natural contours of the land, it has many delightful levels that lend a distinctive provincial charm to the building. Two internal courtyards, a living room leading out into a leafy porch, six large rooms, sun decks and loads of covered & uncovered terrace space add up to a unique open plan.
Students are housed in dorms and in tents pitched on the covered terrace. A separate suite of showers and loos service the dorms and tents. Tents are fitted with comfortable mattresses, sheets and pillows.

Food
We have a full-fledged kitchen, which serves all meals and refreshments. The food served here makes for a great introduction to Indian cuisine. For long stay travellers we are geared to serve soups, cold meat sandwiches and pastas. Sanjay, himself a great cook oversees the menus and often puts on his chef’s hat. Friends know him to rustle up a mean stew, subtle veggie delicacies and a spicy chicken curry.
(Since Kai and Meltem visited, we now serve nouvelle cuisine as well.)
The weekend barbecue is party time at the guesthouse and traditional delicacies can be sampled on festive occasions.

For pilots traveling with their own gear we offer a per day package cost inclusive of all meals eaten at our guesthouse, accommodation site transportation (one trip to the flying site per day), site charges and flying company.
We have discovered and christened all the sites here and our relationship with the local people has led to the opening of these sites to the flying community. When you fly with us you share our experience and our goodwill in the area. You will in turn help the local people and the Paragliding School.

Whilst your site transport costs are provided as part of your package this only includes one trip a day. If you wish to go to another site or make another trip we will arrange it for you at cost.

Extreme Sports Café’s partner Paragliding Centre can organize fly - ins at various sites in the Western Ghats; special clinics on thermalling, XC (cross country flying) equipment care and maintenance etc; and sources new and second hand equipment for our students as per their budget.

• The length of your Tandem flight may vary from a sled run to an extended soaring flight depending on weather conditions.

• Students below the age of 18 will need written consent of parent / guardian.

• We can carry passengers from 25 to 95 kilos but we need better launch conditions with the heavier passenger

• For your convenience we arrange a pickup service by Jeep from Mumbai, Pune, Lonavala or Kamshet town. Please do let us know if you require this service.

• International Airport - Just about all the major international airlines fly into India. According to the classification of Airports Authority of India, India has 6 major international airports - Delhi, Mumbai (Bombay), Kolkata (Calcutta), Chennai (Madras), Tiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) and the newly upgraded Bangalore airport. These airports cater to around 85% of international air traffic in India.

• Mumbai's Sahar International airport is the closest and most convenient to get to Kamshet and handles the maximum number of international flights to and from India. It takes around 3 hours to reach our base from Kamshet.

• Ask for our airport to site transfer service to have you fetched from the airport and driven up to the hills. If you wish to spend a couple of days in the city let us know your budget and we will book something suitable for you.

• Domestic - Apart from the state owned Indian Airlines and Alliance Air, private airlines like Jet Airways and Sahara Airlines operate to various destinations all over the country. All state capitals and major towns are connected by air. If you are arriving into another city (other than Mumbai) take a flight to Pune, which is an hour’s drive from Kamshet. A prepaid taxi service from the airport (costing about Rupees 700.00….) will bring you into Kamshet. Alternatively ask for our airports to site pick up service.

• There are 24-hour exchange facilities available at all big cites and international airports.

• The closest facility for cashing Traveller’s cheques & ATM from Kamshet is nearby Pune.

Health for Paragliding..

In any case, if you suffer from heart problems or epilepsy or any other medical condition, which may cause difficulty you should certainly consult your doctor first.

Expect to be asked about health matters before you sign on at our paragliding training school. Piloting and drugs do not mix. Your instructor will not let you fly if you have consumed alcohol that day, or if they suspect that you have taken drugs.
