license Courses |
The
9 Day license Course is a very intensive training course designed
to coach you to license standard.
What
to Expect:
The
first morning we get used to the equipment and practice controlling
the paraglider close to the ground. Expect bunny hops from a gentle
slope. In the afternoon we go to a suitable site for the first major
flights.
Successive
days consist of multiple high flights from launch sites suitable
to the weather of the day. Expect around 30 flights, focusing initially
on take off and landing skills. Once these skills are acquired we
move on to ridge soaring and thermalling skills, allowing you to
extend your flight times, course participants typically reach heights
of around 2500 feet during these flights.
We
prefer you to do this course in a block of 9 days as you learn much
quicker this way, however if you have a problem getting the time
off work you can split the course into 2 stages.
Theory:
Combined with the flying is an element of theory. We take great
effort to conduct the theory in a natural environment, discussing
it as it occurs on the hill or in the landing paddock but there
is also a necessary element of classroom theory. If you have the
opportunity we recommend some pre course reading. “The
Art of Paragliding“ by Dennis Pagen is a particularly
useful book.
Course
Cost:
Cost for the 9 day license course is $1,665.00 . Cost
includes all equipment, instruction and transport to training and
flying sites from our office in Bright. This also gives you 1 years
membership to our local club sites.
Note:
The Hang Gliding Federation Of Australia now requires all license
course participants to become a short term member, this additional
cost is $99 payable before commencement of the course.

Paragliding Clinics |
Once
you have gained a license we offer further training clinics to advance
your skills.
Cross country clinics - improve your thermalling and learn the skills
to safely fly cross country.
Tow endorsements - allowing you to fly where there are no hills
- flat land flying.
Cross
Country Paragliding Clinics Aus $180 / day.
This course is designed to enable pilots to gain a fuller understanding
of the principles of thermalling and cross country flying.
We meet at 9:00 am, on the first morning of the course at the Alpine
Paragliding office in 100 Gavan Street. There we will have an initial
discussion on your expectations from the clinic. The purpose of the
clinic is to enable pilots to gain a fuller understanding of the
principles of thermalling and cross country flying. We will try
to achieve this through a mixture of discussion and practical flying
depending, of course, on the weather conditions.
We intend to make use of as many sites as possible. Mystic Bowl
will be popular, we also have available Mt Emu, Buckland Ridge and
Gundowring. We will use whichever sites offer the best potential
conditions.
The clinic is reserved for HGFA licensed pilots who are currently
financial. A vario, altimeter, reserve parachute and UHF radio are
recommended for the clinic. We would also prefer pilots to use certified
paragliders.
The clinic provides theory and practical application of thermalling
principles. A 4WD and retrieve driver are permanently on hand to
get you back up the hill in good time. We have 2 instructors supervising
your flying from the launch and in the air.
Paragliding
Tow Endorsements Aus $180 / day.
This course is designed to introduce you to the art of towing safely.
We use a hydraulic pull in winch via a reflex pulley allowing the
instructor to be next to the pilot as he/she is launching.
What to Expect:
The tow clinic is held at Porepunkah Airstrip, near Bright. We usually
meet at 8:00 am on the morning of the course where we will have
a brief on the problems and expectations of towing.
The purpose of the tow clinic is to enable pilots to qualify for
the HGFA tow endorsement. This involves a minimum of ten tows per
pilot, including at least two simulated weak link breaks.
There is also an element of theory, we expect pilots to be comfortable
with the theory of lift, stalls and tucks with particularly regard
to the implications on these topics with changes in angle of attack.
The tow clinic is reserved for HGFA licensed pilots who are currently
financial. We prefer pilots to use certified paragliders, which
the manufacturers have acknowledged to be suitable for towing.
The clinic provides a hydraulic pull in winch, driver, tow releases
and radios. The pilot is expected to bring his own paraglider and
harness. Each pilot should have safety glasses, which must be worn
at all times during a tow. If you do not want to use your own paraglider
we can supply a school glider for an additional $50.
