The first surprising aspect for whoever visits the tourist Region of Rota da Luz for the first time is that everything is so close by. It only takes a few minutes to go from the sun-drenched sands to the coolness of the pine woods and vineyards and the invigorating air of the hilltops, as only a few kilometers separate the coastal areas of Ovar, Murtosa, Aveiro, Ílhavo and Vagos from the green slopes of Vale de Cambra and Águeda or from the riverbanks of the Douro River. In just one day, one can sunbathe on a beach and spend some time in the water surrounded by a green landscape.
The second surprising aspect is the Ria itself, its horizons of different shades of blue, dotted here and there with white salt pyramids and the sails of the Moliceiros (typical boats of Aveiro), the maize-fields and pastures.

Extreme Sports Cafés’ new partner Portuguese Kitesurfing Centre is located in a beautiful unspoiled area with no big buildings and large crowds and offers kitesurfing courses and Kitesurfing lessons from May to September. With Atlantic beaches were you can still walk around the primitive dunes and with no crowds. The centre is located on a sand strip with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and a lagoon on the other side. The lagoon where we teach kitesurfing has very shallow water, which is ideal for beginners and the ocean side has the Atlantic swell with waves everyday, making it very good for surf camps. There is no need for cars or buses here, you can walk straight from the kitesurfing centre to the beach, to the camping site or the hotel in about 3 min, everything is conveniently close by.
Extreme Sports cafes’ new partner Portuguese Watersports Centre offers both Windsurfing and Kitesurfing instruction between May and September. Located in the northwest of Portugal, near the town of Aveiro, in a picturesque fishing Village. This centre was opened in 1997, due to the efforts of two windsurfers who wanted to provide good support for water-sports locally. The nearest big city with airport is Porto at about 80 Km from the spot. The Portuguese Tourist Board licensed the Portuguese Watersports Centre in 2000. In 2000 they began the Kitesurfing School and were the first official Portuguese school of the international Wipika School network. Since then it has evolved, and is now recognised, both on national and international basis, for the quality of the infrastructure, services, customer support and staff..

The proximity to the sea and the existence of large bodies of water, such as the Ria of Aveiro, imprint very specific climatic characteristics to this region.
The climate is humid all year long and is also characterised by moderately cold winters and mild summers. The rainy season usually begins in October and ends in May. Therefore, the climate could be characterised as a moderately Mediterranean maritime climate. Using the values regarding Aveiro as a frame of reference, the annual average temperature is 15º C, with a temperature range of 8.5ºC.
In the summer, the maximum temperature often exceeds 30ºC. In the winter, the average temperature is approximately 10º C. The total annual precipitation average is approximately 900 mm, however, it is higher in the mountain area.

Private Kitesurfing Lesson - 90€
This is a 2hour kitesurfing lesson, one to one tuition with an instructor to work on any kitesurfing skills you need.

• All kitesurfing equipment needed for lessons is supplied - Bowkites / helmet / impact vest
•All Kitesurfing lessons include Safety Boat cover.
• All kitesurfing instructors are certificated by VDWS.

Kitesurfing Kit Hire

Kitesurfing Kit Hire– 90€
This is 3hours of kit hire. We give you a hand launching / pick you up by boat in case you are in trouble and we are always keeping an eye on you. All equipment supplied including safety boat service.
•You must be an Intermediate rider to hire kit.

VDWS Kiteboarding License
All students get a personal kiteboarding licence from their instructor after successful completiopn of their course. This card (with its specific licence number) aims to be a permanent companion and, by this, illustrates one's VDWS kite-apprenticeship for the rental of equipment and vis-à-vis local authorities.
Every passed level will be confirmed and recorded by a corresponding sticker on the kiteboarding licence-card.

All extreme sports cafe kitesurfing courses in Portugal follow the VDWS assessment system. Our instructors are VDWS qualified and at the end of each course students will receive an VDWS card with their achieved level. All the necessary equipment is provided for students. (excluding food and drinks) Students are advised to wear a hat and apply sun-cream as they will be spending a lot of time in the sun. Students must be 16 years or older, although we can teach children under 16 with their parent’s permission and presence.
