has a new Kitesurfing School based in Auckland, New Zealand.
Our New Zealand Kitesurfing School is a recognised IKO school and
all our instructors are fully qualified and experienced,(IKO and/or
BKSA) so you can be assured you'll get the best advice and training
available.
In
the case of no wind situations, we have plenty of other activities
to keep us busy on the beach and water. We will cover any theory
and safety components of a course in low wind conditions and we
always have a race tuned Thundercat standing by should we want to
practice any wakeboarding, skurfing or just go for a blast!
If we are unable to cover any components of the course due to lack
of wind then our school will reschedule the course with yourselves
for another convenient time to complete any outstanding components.

Kitesurfing
is one of the newest members of the family of extreme sports and
therefore carries certain risks. Our primary concern at Extreme
Sports Cafe is your safety when kitesurfing, or learning to kitesurf,
and we ensure your learning experience is a safe one by teaching
to the IKO standards. This means that we only use IKO professional
Kiteboard Instructors and use all the safety equipment recommended
by the IKO, namely:
•
Safety boat cover – A race tuned ThunderCat is used for this
purpose, with a top speed of over 80kmph, you’ll always be
assured of a quick pick up – this is a buzz in itself!
• Kites with effective safety systems
• Helmets
• Knee and elbow pads for land based activities
• Buoyancy Aids
Courses
with Extreme Sports Cafe are the complete deal from providing your
kit, to re-booking if the wind's no good and of course that all
important insurance cover. Tuition is usually based around the local
tides to ensure you have shallow flat water to learn in.
A fixed price is charged for the Introduction to Kiteboarding and
IKO courses are charged on an hourly basis as progression will depend
on each student’s ability.

October until March, each year.
We
don't stop kitesurfing though! Please contact
us for other locations when this area of the world is out of
season for kitesurfing.

 Kitesurfing
Introduction and Taster Session. (3
Hours)*
This session will give you a real taste of what Kitesurfing
is about and will give you a good foundation from which
to continue learning to kitesurf, as well as an insight
into the sport of Kitesurfing and Power Kite flying.
Entry
Level - No experience needed but you must be able
to swim.
Achievement

of what Kitesurfing is about and will give you a good foundation

4
hour IKO Level 1 Discovery Kitesurfing Course*
The first part of this program will take you through the
steps of piloting a 2 and 4 line kite, and body dragging
in the water. You will also learn about safety and how important
it is to the future of the sport of kitesurfing. Furthermore
you will be taken through the steps of kitesurfing equipment
set up, launching and landing.
Entry
Level - No experience needed but you must be able
to swim.
Achievement

You will be certified up to level one with the IKO Kiteboarder
Card.
• This entry-level training will stand you in good
stead, from here you will be able to continue learning in
complete safety.

hour IKO Level 2 Intermediate Kitesurfing Course*
By
the end of the intermediate kitesurfing program you will get
up on the board for your first ride. During the course you
will improve your kite piloting with power, one hand kite
piloting, body dragging unhooked and hooked to your harness.
Entry
Level - IKO Level 1 kitesurfing or equivalent skill
level
Achievement

Get your level certified up to IKO Level 2 with the IKO Kiteboarder
Card.
• Ability to rent equipment and practice under supervision
at any IKO school or hire centre.

| Twelve
hour IKO Level 3 Independant Kitesurfing
Course*
You
will be able to ride upwind and attempt your first jump. In
this program you will learn how to manage your practice area
and choose your own equipment. Your kite flying skills will
have improved and you will learn how to control your direction
and power and return to your starting point. You will be able
to fly more powerful kites and use a twin tip, mutant or a
smaller directional board.
Entry
level - IKO Level 2 or equivalent skill.
Achievement

• Get your level certified up to IKO Level 3 with the
IKO Kiteboarder Card
• Become an independent kitesurfer.
• Buy your own equipment, in the knowledge that you
have the ability to use it safely without injuring yourself
or others.
• Access to advanced clinic program.
• With time on the water and experience you can become
an assistant instructor and then onto IKO instructorship.

Private Tuition / Kitesurfing Coaching
Private
Kitesurfing Tuition: $90/per
hour
Private
lessons are available to those who want to learn on a one
on one basis. The course contents will be identical to the
IKO courses outlined above. IKO qualifications will be given
at the end of the course allowing the usual IKO cardholder
benefits.
If
you have mastered the basics, and want to progress we can
also offers an advanced clinic. You can learn anything from,
backloops and wave riding to kiteloops and handle passes,
let us help you take your riding to the next level.
With
all our courses we can provide video analysis for your course,
giving you valuable feed back on your performance and progression.
We can arrange to put this onto VCD as a souvenir of your
kiteboarding experience.
Please
book as many hours as you feel you might need in advance,
as we get very busy in the kitesurfing season and may not
be able to extend your booking if you don't let us know how
much you require in advance.

IKO
Kiteboarder Workbook
Each student participating in an IKO course will be given a kiteboarders
workbook. This workbook complements the course and will help you
to become independent and safe wherever you decide to ride. The
workbook functions as an excellent reference point and learning
aid both during and after your course. The workbook includes useful
tips on understanding the wind, choosing your kiteboarding equipment,
and a complete listing of kiteboarding terminology.

| IKO
Kitesurfing Instructor Course in

Kitesurfing
is the fastest growing water-sport, therefore it is no surprise
that there is a high demand for qualified instructors across
the globe. Our kitesurfing instructor course looks to take
competent kitesurfers through the IKO syllabus. Using UK trainers
and examiners it also gives the added award of BKSA instructor,
covering extra elements essential to working safely in the
industry.
Experienced
IKO level 3 Kiteboarder
You need to be IKO level 3 (going up wind and jumping) or
equivalent with minimum 6 months experience, and have a First
Aid and Power Boat certificate to do the instructor course.
If you have these then you can book straight onto our 6 day
IKO/BKSA course.
Inexperienced
IKO Level 3 Kiteboarder
We also run a 4-week option, which is aimed at existing level
3 kiteboarders with 6 months kiteboarding experience, who
still need further training. Course participants will gain
IKO/BKSA Instructor, first aid and powerboat certification
as well as invaluable, teaching practice and industry training.

GENERAL
CONDITIONS
You must be able to swim and be comfortable in the water.
REFUNDS
In case of adverse weather conditions, we will change the kite surfing
lesson schedule to another date.
If this is not possible then the guests will receive a full refund
of the prepaid missed lessons and a credit for any deposit also.
PRE-BOOKING
We recommend you to pre-book as soon as you can.
We will ask you for a 10% deposit when booking.
The balance of the fees need to be paid normally one month prior
to arrival at our school.
