Koh Samui... For many this is a perfect example for a tropical paradise island - and we think that’s true. Koh Samui is situated in the Gulf of Thailand. Nowhere in the world do you get so much quality for so little and the warm Thai hospitality is world famous.

Extreme sports Café is pleased to now offer Kitesurfing here on this tropical paradise island in Thailand, a world class kite-spot for all levels.. On top, the North-East Monsoon delivers steady winds to the eastern part and between November and February you find top conditions for all kitesurfer levels here. Beginner kitesrufers enjoy hip-deep water in the huge lagoon, advanced kitesurfers blast along the flat-water or play with the reef-wave at high tide.

May to August (SW winds):
During this time of year, Extreme Sports Café’s partner Kitesurfing Centre on Koh Samui is located on a resort at Big Buddha beach on the northern side of the island. This resort is very close to the airport and the main tourist beach of Chaweng. Kitesurfing lessons are in two locations during this period, in front of the resort and also at Lipa Noi beach. (20 minutes drive away - a great place to kitesurf for beginners to advanced. The sandy shallow bay is great for practicing.)
The location we choose will be dependant on the wind direction, wind strength, tide height and class size.
November to March (NE winds):
During this time of year, Extreme Sports Café’s partner Kitesurfing Centre on Koh Samui is situated at a different Resort on the south east side of the island south of Lamai. The gods sent us this kiteboarding location! For teaching kiteboarding we have a shallow sandy bay with an outlying reef, which protects the inner bay and keeps the water flat like glass. And of course, the water is a perfect 26 Celsius. If you stay at the resort you are next to the water and close to your room.
From November to March we receive northeasterly to easterly wind ranging from 8 to 16 knot range, perfect for the beginner and intermediates. The wind blows cross-shore to onshore.

Kitesurfing course on Koh Samui with Extreme Sports Cafe

1-Day Kiteboarding Discovery 4,000THB
This kitebaording course gives the would be kiteboarder all the information that they need to determine if kiteboarding is the sport for them.
This is a fun day covering similar skills as the 1st day of the 3-day kiteboarding course. This course aims to give you a better understanding of what makes kiteboarding the great sport it is. You should come away with good knowledge of how the equipment works and the varying options. You will gain skills in rigging and flying a 4 line and/or a ram-air trainer kite.
Note: 1 day is roughly 4+ hours.
Min 2 students / max 4 students per instructor.

3-Day Kiteboarding Complete Beginner 11,000THB
Covers all you need to know to get up and going on the board - Up to or completing IKO kiteboarder Level 2.
Using the latest IKO teaching methods, we place a major emphasis on learning to safely rig / land / launch / fly a 4-Line inflatable kite. We want flying an inflatable kite to become second nature to you. Learn to fly these kites confidently and safely and the board riding will be easier than you would ever expect. In all our kiteboarding lessons we have kept theory to a minimum and placed more emphasis on getting out on the beach / in the water and DOING it.
By the end of the 3 days you should have completed IKO kiteboarder Level 1 and Level 2 and be an independent kiteboarder.

The standard kiteboarding course outline will be as follows and emphasizes hands on practice:
Day 1: Rigging up a 4 line kite and equipment safety systems, understanding the wind and weather, site assessment and safety, flying a 4-line kite on short lines, launching, landing, water re-launching, emergency quick release, self landing, equipment types and safety systems.
Day 2: Independently rigging up long lines, flying in the chicken loop, flying confidently at the edge of the wind window, rescue techniques, body dragging techniques, self launching techniques, basic water techniques.
Day 3: Water start techniques, board-riding techniques, water re-launch in deep water.

Note: 1 day is roughly 4+ hours, min 2 students / max 4 students per instructor
We feel that this 3-Day Kiteboarding course offers the required time needed to achieve the goal of independence. We also understand that each student varies in his or her learning style ability and experience. Thus, our instructors are trained to adapt kiteboarding lesson plans to suit the student/s levels.

1-Day Intermediate Kiteboarding 4,000THB
We will work on any kiteboarding skills you may require such as going upwind, gibing, water re-launching, and jumping.

1-Day Kiteboarding Private Tuition 8,000THB
A private lesson to work on any particular kiteboarding skill you may require. We can provide boat support and 2-way radio communication that will fast track you through the learning process.

Kiteboarding Equipment & Rental - Koh Samui, Thailand

At Extreme Sports Café’s partner Koh Samui Kiteboarding centre we use the latest kites, boards and accessories for all our students.
Boards: Depending on your weight and skill level we use either of the tried and tested Airush Square 1 or Square 2 boards. These boards are a bi-directional design with enough volume to prevent the board being an issue when you are learning.
Kites: We use 4-Line inflatable kites to teach. Why learn with a two line when you are going to purchase and use a 4-line kite? We start you out on 4-line kites in the 6-9m^2 size range using short lines, progressing to larger kites and longer lines depending on the wind strength and your body weight. We have a large selection of kites ranging from 1.2,6,8,9,12,14,16 and 18m^2 sizes.
Accessories: We supply Cabrinha Seat and Waist harnesses, Gath safety helmets, and buoyancy/ impact vests.

Complete Kiteboarding Kit Rental 4,000THB per day
Complete Kiteboarding Package includes kite, board, harness, bar, lines.
• 1-Day is all day from opening until close.
• You must prove to us that you are an advanced level kiteboarder before we can rent the equipment to you.
• When renting equipment, you are responsible for this equipment. If damage is incurred, you will be required to pay the cost to repair or if a write off, the cost to replace the equipment.

Accommodation when kitesurfing on Koh Samui

Extreme Sports Cafe's partner Kiteboarding School is situated in beautiful resorts on Koh Samui, so there's no need to worry about being too far from the centre.
Nov to March
The Resort is also the ideal location for our centre. It is constructed on 25 acres of coconut plantation and is quiet and relaxing. We have a kiteboard equipment showroom and office, along with a restaurant, equipment storage area, wash-down area, swimming pool and covered areas for getting out of the sun. The resort is also home to a tiger zoo and aquarium so there is plenty to do for the family or girlfriend / boyfriend if they are not the kite type.

Koh samui Kitesurfing Center - Thailand

Extreme Sports Cafe's partner Koh Samui Center is the biggest official certified IKO (international kiteboarding organization) kiteboarding school center in Thailand with insurance from the international ZURICH insurance company in Germany. Using only the latest IKO teaching methods and guidelines with IKO qualified instructors and up to date Kitesurfing Equipment. Be careful from imitations!
They have been teaching kiteboarding for five years now and have a lot of experience in teaching complete beginners and intermediates with the best IKO instructors and the best new Kiteboarding equipment in the market for teaching, so you are guaranteed to have the best instruction and quality of lesson.
All students at the end of the 3 day Kitebaording Course receive an IKO certification stating their IKO level.

Items that you should bring to the lesson: UV rated sunglasses (that you don't mind losing!) with a secure strap, a hat with a strap, lots of sunscreen, a rash vest and booties (optional).

If you want to give yourself the best chance of wind and great conditions, we recommend Ko Samui from November to late February and again from May to August.

There are a lots of other activities available as well; Thai massage (perfect after kiting!), Island-Trips, Wave-riding in Chaweng, snorkeling, diving, PARTY (!!!), Water ski/Wakeboarding, Thai-cuisine courses, temples, waterfalls, Tiger park, Aquarium, Butterfly Garden, Quad-Biking, Paintball, Shopping and much much more….We don’t have to say anything about the nightlife, do we?

Here in Samui you can have fun, no matter if you came on your own or with a partner. The next hot spot is Lamei Beach - only a 5 minutes ride away from our base. Koh Panghan the sister island of Koh Samui which hosts the legendary full moon party each month is only a 30min boat ride away. Soon Extreme Sports Cafe will have one of it's world famous bars / Cafes on Koh Phangan. We already have a new partner Kite Surfing school on Koh Phangan.
Koh Samui was not affected by the Tsunami, which is one of the reasons why it’s booming like no other place in Thailand.
