All
Extreme Sports Cafe Kitesurfing / Kiteboarding courses follow the
IKO (International Kitesurfing Organisation) assessment system.
Our kitesurf instructors are IKO qualified and at the end of each
course students will receive a kitesurfing IKO card with their achieved
level. All the necessary kitesurfing equipment is provided for students
(excluding food and drinks) and the kitesurf courses last between
4 and 5 hours per day depending on the wind conditions. Students
are advised to wear a hat and apply sun-cream as they will be spending
a lot of time in the sun. Students must be 16 years or older, although
we can teach children under 16 to kitesurf, with their parent’s
permission and presence.
| Welcome
to our kitesurf center in Hua Hin. |
 Extreme
Sports Cafe offers Kitesurfing in Thailand in over 6 locations.
Recently we have revamped our Hua Hin Kitesurf center.. The kitesurfing
season in HuaHin, Thailand is started, with the SE wind beginning
early this year at the start of February. The tides are beginning
to drop and the beach is widening. Things are ideal for the beginnner
to intermediate to improve their skills.
Hua
Hin is the oldest beach town resort in Thailand and has the royal
summer palace of the HRH King Phumiphon of Thailand located here.
For this reason the town has kept its unique charm and its beautiful
beaches. Our
kitesurfing center is situated in an ideal location away from the
main tourist area, but only a 20 minute walk into the town center.
You can get a took took (mini taxi) from the town to our kitesurf
center in 5 minutes. Our kitesurf shop is home to our kitesurfing
equipment store and kitesurfing training room as well as the washdown
area and storage area. Hua Hin is also our main kitesurf test center
in Thailand for Airush kites and boards. If you are interested in
purchasing equipment, you can test it out before you buy it. Please
contact Extreme Sports Cafe for details
of equipment rental and purchase packages..
Hua
Hin is a great place for all levels of kiteboarders. A 5 km long
beach makes for great down winders, and it has the longest windy
season in Thailand: from the start of November to the end of April.
The
beach is relatively uncrowded and there is plenty of room to lay
your kite down. In the summer months the beach opens up to around
100 metres in width during low tide. There is 30 or 40 km of coastline
north and south of Hua Hin awaiting discovery.
The
best time to visit Hua Hin for Kitesurfing is in March, April, middle
of May.

Conditions:
Hua Hin beach has choppy waves which get bigger as the wind increases,
and a nice little shore break for shredding and boosting. Waves
are smaller during the months of February to April. Some days in
November to January can produce some big surf, great for the advanced
kiter.
Water
Depth:
Chest deep at about 50m, sandy bottom.
Launch
Area: Beach is fine sand with very few shells. Beach
is widest in the summer months from February to May, up to 100 wide
at low tide. Width decreases from November to January, and on occasion
high tide can leave zero beach.
Seasons
and Wind Information:
November
to January- the northeasterly monsoons, wind ranging
from 8-20 knots. Wind blows in cycles averaging 6-10 days at a time.
Wind is generally strongest in the morning decreasing over the day.
Wind direction is generally northerly in the morning swinging slowly
around to the northeast over the day.
February
to mid May - Afternoon sea breezes 12-20 knots, kicking
in around 13:00, building until around 17:00 then decreasing as
the sun goes down.
Mid
May to October –
the south westerly monsoons producing gusty offshore winds: the
rainy season!
A theory that the wind is stronger over the full moon period has
been thrown about by a number of people. My experience seems to
suggest that the full moon can create stronger winds... but not
always. A friend of mine called Rodger also told me that in Hua
Hin the wind always starts to blow on Fridays. So plan your trips
to arrive a few days before a full moon and on a Friday if possible…!

Other
Activities :
Golf:
there are 10 quality golf courses within 30 minutes drive of Hua
Hin.
Both
mountain biking and road riding are popular.
Go
Carting, horse riding, banana boat riding, jet skiing, roasting
in the sun and even beach volley ball top off the list of things
to do when there is a lack of wind.
Ko
Takiab at the southern end of Hua Hin beach has a number of nice
restaurants and a Buddhist temple to check out.
There
are also a number of national parks around the area to visit.
There
is a wildlife rescue center an hour's drive from Hua Hin in one
of the national parks. Head down to Dolphin Bay for some sight seeing.
Night
life: A number of night clubs exist. The Hilton
Brewing Company is open until 2am and then there is Rockestra after
2am to late. There are plenty of small bars, and if you want to
get away from the “Farangs” there are a number of Thai
nightclubs to check out. Try Stepz at the Grand Hotel and Star Planet
under the City Beach Hotel.
How
to Get to Hua Hin: Hua Hin is easily accessible
by taxi / bus and train connections.
Taxis
are easily arranged from Bangkok airport to Hua Hin at a cost of
1700 Baht.
Buses
run to Hua Hin every 30 minutes from the Southern Bus station. Note:
When you are at the station, do not get on the Hua Hin bus that
is waiting in line. There will be someone who asks if you want to
go to Hua Hin but do not get on this bus (it's 100 baht, but it's
not aircon, and stops every 2 minutes!). Instead, go to your right
into the roofed bus terminal and buy a 128 Baht ticket at the appropriate
ticket window. Buses leave from the southern bus station in Bangkok
to Hua Hin every 30 minutes.
Trains
are available from Bangkok and Malaysia, although from Bangkok it
is easier to catch the bus as the train is usually takes 1+ hours
longer.
| Kite
Boarding / Kitesurfing Training in Hua Hin - Thailand |
 At
Extreme Sports Cafe's Kitesurfing School in Hua Hin offers a 3 day
package for the beginner. With this course we teach new riders all
the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to kiteboard in a
responsible and competent manner. Our aim is to ensure that you
are independent as a new kiter so that afterwards you can go away
and practice safely.
As
any experienced kiteboarder understands, accidents can and do occur,
but are generally the result of rider inexperience, negligence and
lack of kite knowledge. We feel that this course offers the required
time needed to achieve the goal of independence.
We
also understand that each student varies in their learning style
ability and experience. Thus, our instructors are trained to adapt
lesson plans to suit the student/s levels.
With
the course we also offer a 30+ page booklet which has been written
by our kitesurfing instructors. It covers information on subjects
such as safety guidelines, weather, equipment, pre-flight checks,
rigging up and much more. It has been designed to help fill in any
gaps you may have after you leave our center.
If
you can't spare 3 days, then we offer a 1 day discovery course which
will give you a basic skill level and good understanding of kiteboarding
and the equipment. If you have previously completed some training
or need to brush up your skills we can offer you a 1 day refresher
course.
For
those who don't like the group teaching environment, we offer a
private course 1 on 1 with the instructor. This can help in fast
tracking you through a course or help to work on a particular area.
At our kitesurfing centers we use the latest kites, boards and accessories
for our kitesurf students.
Kitesurf
Boards : Depending on your weight and skill level we use
either of the tried and tested Airush Square 1 or Square 2 boards.
These boards are a bi-directional design with enough volume to prevent
the board being an issue when you are learning.
Kites:
We use 4-Line inflatable kites to teach. Why learn with a two line
when you are going to purchase and use a 4-line kite? We start you
out on 4-line kites in the 6-9m^2 size range using short lines,
progressing to larger kites and longer lines depending on the wind
strength and your body weight. KBA has a large selection of kites
ranging from 1.2,6,8,9,12,14,16 and 18m^2 sizes.
Accessories:
We supply Cabrinha Seat and Waist harnesses, Gath safety helmets,
and buoyancy/ impact vests.
What
else you get from us:
25hp inflatable boat that we use for safety and teaching.
We
also have a quad motorbike to transfer students up the beach after
a downwind run on the kite
Helmet
mounted radios when board riding. This speeds up learning and makes
the whole process easier for everyone.
Fun
and professional kitesurfing instruction...
Item that you should bring to the lesson : UV rated sunglasses (that
you don't mind losing!) with a secure strap, a hat with a strap,
lots of sun screen, a rash vest and booties (optional).
