Extreme Sports Café’s Kitesurfing Courses in Gran Canaria take place at "Playa del Ingles" beach although sometimes depending on the weather conditions, Kitesurfing courses can be moved to "Jinamar beach" or "San Augustin beach".

Kitesurfing classes have a maximum of 4-6 students for each session. Kitesurfing sessions are held in the morning and another session in the afternoon.

Extreme Sports Café’s Kitesurfing instructors can speak and teach in English, Spanish, German or French. They have the skills to train everybody in this fascinating sport, from beginners to advanced Kitesurfers safely. Extreme Sports Café’s Kitesurfing School in Gran Canaria has last generation kites and boards, wetsuits and all material necessary for Kitesurfing. There is also a Zodiac for when conditions require.

Extreme Sports Café’s Kitesurfing School will pick up and drop off clients from any hotel inside the San Agustín, Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas or Melonera areas.

The Climate in “Gran Canaria”
With its endless sandy beaches, dramatic mountainous interior, desert like dunes and acres of lush green vegetation, Gran Canaria is the most scenic of the Canary Islands.

The Isle of “Gran Canaria” is divided in two main climatic zones. The North centre which is very humid, where you can find precious green valleys with their enormous craters and boilers, and the dry part further south with its desert landscapes. In the South you can find incredible golden fine sandy beaches for a swim or some sun. The average temperature is between 17 degrees in the winter to 24º in the summer. Water temperature varies between 19º and 23º… So, water sports are an all year around event… Extreme Sports Café can now offer Kitesurfing Courses for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced kitesurfers in this year round ideal location.

Maspalomas with its natural park “Dunas de Maspalomas” is an area with big dunes of very fine sand. Located in the south of “Gran Canaria” in “San Bartolome” district it is perhaps the best beach on the island stretching for over 6 km. The landscape is overwhelming with its long dunes and clear blue sea. Large tourist complexes are located here with resorts, hotels, apartments and sports facilities especially in “el Faro de Maspalomas” where you can find a marina at the beach of “Pasito Blanco”.

“Playa del Ingles” is located close to “Maspalomas”. Its fine golden sand beach stretches for 2.7km with a clear blue sea. This is one of the preferred tourist spots where you can find the most modern hotels and sport facilities on the island.

“San Agustín” is a very quite location. Its apartment complexes with wide green areas, hotels, bungalows and shopping areas will guarantee you a great holiday away from all the hustle and bustle.

3-Days Basic kitesurfing Course €320 per person

This is an introduction to Kitesurfing with land training and your first contact with the water as a kitesurfer.

This Kitesurfing Course includes:

5-Day Beginner Kitesurfing Courses €450 per person

After completing the 5-day Kitesurfing Course, beginners will be self-sufficient and ready to free ride...

This Kitesurfing Course includes:

• Transport Hotel - Kitesurfing spots – Hotel. • 5-Days of Kitesurfing School. (15 hours tuition) • All kitesurfing equipment. • Certified Instructors. • Radio assisted classes. • Insurance. (Civil liability) • Snack at the beach. • Kitesurfing Certificate. • Kitesurfing manual.

Maximum - 4 students per instructor.

Intermediate Kitesurfing Course €420 per person

This course covers all the exercises from "body drag" onwards... It's fundamental that you know how to water start and have completed all the beach exercises - having absolute control over the kite.

This Kitesurfing Course includes:

• Transport Hotel - Kitesurfing spots – Hotel. • 3 Days of Kite Surf School. (9 hours tuition) • All kitesurfing equipment. • Certified Instructors. • Radio assisted classes. • Insurance. (Civil liability) • Snack at the beach. • Kitesurfing Certificate.

Maximum - 2 students per instructor.

Advanced Kitesurfing Course €420 per person.

This kitesurfing course is for all free riders looking for extra training or a refresher. In this course you'll improve:

• Body position. • Constant power control with the kite & kite movement, on both parts of the wind window techniques. • Edging control. Methods to increase or decrease the power, by edging. • Switch of direction without loosing the power. • And first jumps...

This Kitesurfing Course Includes:

• Transport Hotel - Kitesurfing spots – Hotel. • 3 Days of Kite Surf School - 9 hours tuition. • Maneuvers and jumps. • Training plans. (According to student level) • Supervised practice, with boat and radio assistance. • All kitesurfing equipment. • Certified Instructors. • Radio assisted classes. • Insurance (Civil liability) • Snack at the beach.

Maximum - 2 students per instructor.

Pre-requisite : In order to do the Advanced Kitesurfing Course a pre-requisite is to know how to water-start, water rescue techniques, absolute control on breaking and self-autonomy to deal with the kite and board, in and out of the water.

Combined courses – 3-Days kite + 2-Days Surfing €410 per person

Depending on weather conditions in only a few days you can initiate yourself in these two wonderful sports - Kitesurfing and Surfing! This kitesurf and surf camp is for beginners in both sports.

Kitesurfing Equipment Hire - Gran Canaria

Extreme Sports Café’s Kitesurfing School in Gran Canaria is open all year around with Kitesurfing kit hire available for experienced Kitesurfers.

We use "North" Kites and our Boards are from "North and Fanatic".
Rented equipment can be used wherever you wish but you must leave a €150 deposit.

By Car

By Train / Bus

Costa Brava - Take the train to Figueres station, there you can either take the bus to Empuriabrava (from the bus station next to the train), or you can take a taxi (20€).

Tarifa - For this though you will have to first get to Malaga, short trip by train and then change again in Algeciras.

By Air

Costa Brava - By air you can fly to Barcelona, Girona or Perpignan (France) for the Costa Brava. The companies Easyjet, Ryanair, Jet2 and even British Airways (If you really want to use an overpriced, low service quality airline!) all offer flights at discount prices and Sarfa buses run between airports and Empuriabrava.

Tarifa - Malaga airport is one of the busiest in the world for tourist traffic. This has brought all the costs down dramatically and increased the services available.

At Extreme Sports Café’s Gran Canaria Kitesurfing School classes can be completed in less time than predicted, due to wind conditions or not completed due to lack of wind or extreme conditions. Extreme Sports Café’s Gran Canaria Kitesurfing School agrees to offer alternative activities or issue a BONUS for the hours missed (in case of class cancellation). You can trade the BONUS for other activities (windsurf, diving, kayak) or use it for the next year.

BONUSES are personal and valid for 1 year.

A negligent attitude or not following the Instructors instructions can lead to cancellation of all your activities without refund or rescheduling.

Insurance for Gran Canaria Extreme Sports

All courses follow the IKO (International Kitesurfing Organisation) assessment system. Our instructors are IKO qualified and at the end of each course students will receive an IKO card with their achieved level. All the necessary equipment is provided for students (excluding food and drinks) and the courses last between 4 and 5 hours per day depending on the wind conditions. Students are advised to wear a hat and apply sun-cream as they will be spending a lot of time in the sun. Students must be 16 years or older, although we can teach children under 16 with their parent’s permission and presence.
