Kitesurfing or Kiteboarding is taking the World by storm. One of the fastest growing sports is now available to you! Nicknamed South Africa's playground, Durban holds all the ingredients to be one of the best kitesurfing destinations in the world. It boasts pristine beaches, amazing wave riding conditions as well as some great flat-water locations. Africa's bewitching seaside playground in the sun, Durban has from its earliest days possessed a special charm...a certain mystique that adds 'something extra' to the meeting of warm Indian Ocean, radiant golden sands and lush sub-tropical greenery.

All of the above combined, resulted in Durban being chosen to host the 2003 KPWT World Tour (The Kiteboard Pro World Tour).

Extreme Sports Café has teamed up with a well-established school in Durban to offer you the chance to experience Kitesurfing in ‘South Africa’s playground’.

Being a coastal city, Durban is constantly affected by the warm sea current flowing down its shoreline. Humidity is high. The coast to the north and south of Durban enjoys beautiful beaches and warm water. Sea temperatures vary from 25 degrees in summer to 18 degrees in winter. The Agulhas Current travels southward down the KwaZulu-Natal shoreline, and is one of the most powerful currents in the world. Durban is the largest city in KwaZulu-Natal and also has an International Airport.

The climate is tropical most of the year, with the summer thunderstorms bringing a slight relief from the humid atmosphere that prevails. The hills above the city are more temperate. The vegetation on the coastal regions are very abundant and tropical, and visitors to the area will see an amazing range of plants, trees and flowers not found in other parts of Southern Africa.

Between our kitesurfing instructors we are also able to offer lessons in eight foreign languages. Ensuring you get the most out of your kiteboarding lessons our Durban kitesurfing School prefers a one to one teaching method and uses the most up to date teaching methods with a focus on safety first ensuring your learning curve is quicker and less frustrating.

Step 1 - Introduction to Kitesurfing
Includes safety, equipment setup, understanding the wind and land based flying.

Step 2 - Water Introduction
Includes large kite handling, self-launch and body dragging.

Step 3 - Water Skills
Includes advanced body dragging, water re-launch and basic board skills.

Step 4 - Board Basics
Includes water starts and first ride.

Step 5 - Supervised Riding and Tips
Riding with power, change of direction and holding an edge.

Kitesurfing Course Packages in Durban, South Africa.

1-Day Kitesurfing Course Price: R1,000
Course Content: Step 1 to Step 4
Time: from 9:00am to 4:00pm (1 hour for lunch)

2-Day Kitesurfing Course IKO Level 2 Cert Price: R1,800
Day 1 - Kitesurfing Course Content: Step 1 to Step 4
Day 2 - Kitesurfing Course Content: Step 5
Lesson Time: from 9:00am to 4:00pm (1 hour for lunch)

4Hrs kitesurfing Lesson Price: R500
This kitesurfing course is for any level of beginner to help you advance your Kitesurfing skill level.

IKO Level 3 (K) Certification Price: R500
This is usually a 4hour Kitesurfing lesson to get your Level 3 Kitesurfing Certification.

Single Kitesurfing Lesson Price: R300
2-hour session. This Kitesurfing lesson can be taken to help you improve on your current skills.
Lesson Time Slots: 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm

It takes approximately 4 to 5 lessons to be IKO Level 2 Certified (steps 1 to 4 must be completed)

GENERAL CONDITIONS
You must be able to swim and be comfortable in the water.

PLEASE REMEMBER
• Kitesurfing is a physical activity that requires a certain level of fitness so if you are unsure, please consult your doctor.
• All equipment required for the lesson is provided.
• Equipment hire is also available please contact us for rates and info.
• Although we do our utmost to ensure that every pupil reaches the stipulated IKO Certification within the above-mentioned timeframe, individual progress and stamina does vary and the final decision is based on instructor satisfaction and is not guaranteed.
• All lessons are reliant on minimum and maximum wind strengths.

REFUNDS
In case of adverse weather conditions, we will change the kite surfing lesson schedule to another date.
If this is not possible then the guests will receive a full refund of the prepaid missed lessons and a credit for any deposit also.

PRE-BOOKING
We recommend you to pre-book as soon as you can.
We will ask you for a 10% deposit when booking.
The balance of the fees need to be paid one month prior to arrival at our school.

All Extreme Sports Cafe Kitesurfing courses follow the IKO (International Kitesurfing Organisation) assessment system. Our kitesurfing instructors are IKO qualified and at the end of each kitesurfing course students will receive an IKO card with their achieved level. All the necessary equipment is provided for students (excluding food and drinks) and the kitesurfing courses last between 4 and 5 hours per day depending on the wind conditions. Kitesurifng students are advised to wear a hat and apply sun-cream as they will be spending a lot of time in the sun. Kitesurfing students must be 16 years or older, although we can teach children under 16 with their parent’s permission and presence.
