Our specialty is in the area of Apnea. . Our freediving and spearfishing center is located in Portland, Dorset, close to our other Water-sports centers - Kitesurfing, Powerboating, Diving, Windsurfing etc.

Spearfishing and freediving are potentialy dangerous and should never be practiced alone or by people with no training. There is a lot more to it than just holding your breath. NEVER DIVE ALONE.

You dont have to have the lung capacity of a whale and the physique of a greek god to freedive, everybody can.

For some its about depth, but for others its about the relaxation that apnea brings. Your heartbeat slows, your mind clears and you enter into a almost dream like state where all your movements are in slow motion and in tune with the water.

Your body undergoes subtle physiological changes ( we all spend 9 months in liquid and are quite suited to it ) and very quickly adapts to apnea.

Everybody will find something different in freediving. At the PSA we make sure that you a have a safe, relaxed, environment to do this.

Plates can be set as deep as -70m with tech diver safety suport if needed....

With a choice of venues from lakes with things in ( Vobster ) or a quarry with not a lot in ( Chepstow ) to the wonderfull waters around the southwest coast and the Isle of Portland, we can offer something for everybody.

AIDA * (-8m) £70 A taste of depth and an understanding about what is happening to your body.

AIDA Deep tank freediver course ( 30m ) £250. Learn to freedive in a big warm deep tank! Very safe and a good one for people with non freediving partners. The price is for a weekend in the sett tank in Gosport and includes lunch on both days.

AIDA * * course ( -16m) £170 Deeper with more about the physiological aspects and rescue side of things and more about how to spot and deal with a SWB (shallow water blackout) and how to be a good safe buddy.

AIDA *** ( -24M ) £180 A lot deeper and a lot more about the physiological and mental aspects of freediving with in depth looks at rescue and resuscitation. You must have a done the AIDA** or equivalent to enroll on this course.

The Spearfishing course is run over 2 days with accommodation, insurance and speargun hire included. You will cover all the relevant UK techniques of spearo such as Aspetto, hole'ing and drifts, also work out your aim with our underwater target range!

You will go over all aspects of knowledge from tides and reading a chart to planning a hunt and identifying any dangers and risk. Also covered is the safety side of things and what to do if it goes a bit wrong with practise at rescuing a buddy from 10m and dealing with them on the surface. O2 ressus and AIDA freediver ( -25m+ ) are avaliable for those who want to learn more.
All you need to bring is your normal snorkelling gear and a towel. Gear can be rented if needed but your own kit always fits better.

Non divers can always find lots to do around the island from climbing and mountainbiking to just relaxing in one of the many fine pubs or restaurants.
