PADI Assistant Instructor Course
The first part of the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the PADI Assistant Instructor course (AI). This course provides you additional experience as a PADI Professional and teaches you the PADI System of diver education.
What do you need to start?
- PADI Divemaster rating or qualifying certification from another certification organisation.
- At least 18 years old.
- Have 60 logged dives, including night, deep, and navigation dives.
- Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months.

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI)
The Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program portion of the PADI IDC further hones your leadership and teaching skills to prepare you for life as a PADI Instructor.
PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Program Course Prerequisites:
- PADI Assistant Instructor certification.
- Certified diver for at least six months.
- 60 logged dives (with experience in night, deep, and navigation)
- Proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.
What it takes:
- Self-study – Knowledge reviews, quizzes, lectures, presentations.
- Confined Water – Skills review and assessment, workshops and presentations.
- Open Water – Workshops, rescue assessment and presentations.
You must have a minimum of 100 logged dives to become a PADI Instructor (though you can begin training as one with 60 logged dives).
Instructor Examination

Emergency First Response Instructor
This program will show you how to teach PADI's new first aid courses Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR), Emergency First Response Secondary Care and Care For Children. As a PADI Instructor you will be teaching several courses that will require your students to have first aid and CPR training. By qualifying as an EFR Instructor, you will be able to teach your students yourself. Why run the risk of losing your customers to another PADI instructor?
What do you need to start?
- Be a current PADI Divemaster certification or higher.
- Have an Emergency First Response certification or equivalent (such as Medic First Aid).
- Have an EFR Care for Children certification or equivalent.
The Emergency First Response Care for Children course is an innovative CPR, first aid and AED training course that 
teaches people how to provide emergency care for injured or ill children (ages one to eight) and infants less than one year old. During this course, you'll learn how to teach your students about medical emergencies that children face and how they differ from adult conditions. The curriculum also includes the importance of attending to basic emergency situations with children, the emotional aspects of caring for children, secondary care for children, and preventing common injuries and illnesses in children.
