Gran Canaria - The island of Gran Canaria is divided into the northwest and the southeast, which are two large areas different in their climate and landscape. The Canarians call this the geographical North and South. Each of the areas offers a large number of different microclimates and a great variety of natural landscapes. This is one of the main appeals of Gran Canaria. On the same day there could be sunshine and temperatures of 36 degrees on the south coast, whilst in the mountains there can be snow. Gran Canaria Maspalomas Sand Dunes

  • The microclimates in the south of the island, especially in the area between Arguineguín and Mogán are characterised by temperatures of 36 degrees with a nice and refreshing breeze during the summers due to the trade winds. Then in the winter it is affected by the Atlantic cyclones which give it a pleasant spring-like temperature of 24 degrees. These constant temperatures give an ideal level of humidity and the very few days of rain.
  • The water temperature is around 22-24 degrees nearly all year round with very clear waters, giving perfect visibility and the perfect conditions for scuba diving. There are some great scuba dives in the South of the island including wrecks, reefs wall and caves.

    Gran Canaria Lakes

  • In the East there is El Cabron at the village of Arinaga, which is one of only three Marine Reserves in the Canary Islands. The North also has lots of wreck and reefs to offer all levels of divers, including Manta Rays in the months of September through to November. For more information on our Gran Canaria dive sites please check out our Gran Canaria Scuba Diving Holidays page.

Scuba Diving Certification - Recreational scuba diving does not have a centralised certifying or regulatory agency, and is mostly self regulated. There are, however, several large diving organisations that train and certify divers and dive instructors, and many diving related sales and rental outlets require proof of diver certification from one of these organisations prior to selling or renting certain diving products or services. PADI, BSAC, NAUI, CMAS, SSI, SDI,  TDI and ERDi are the most popular international certification agencies that are currently recognised by most diving outlets for diver certification.
