West Java (Jawa Barat) is the western third of the island of Java, Indonesia.  Most of the cities in West Java can be reached by bus, car or train. West Java borders Jakarta  (the Indonesian capital city) and Banten province to the west, and Central Java to the east. To the north is Java Sea. To the south is the Indian Ocean. Unlike most other provinces in Indonesia which have their capitals in coastal area, the provincial capital Bandung is located in a mountainous area.

  • The province's landscape is one of volcanic mountains, steep terrain, forest, mountains rivers, fertile agricultural land, and natural sea harbours. The Province has a great number of attractions, from the wildlife reserve of Ujung Kulon on the south- western tip of Java and the isolated communities of the mysterious Baduy to the unspoiled beaches, the royal palaces of Cirebon and the world renowned botanical garden in Bogor.
  • West Java has tropical climate with temperature reaching 9 degrees Celsius at the Peak of Mount Pangrango and 34 degrees Celsius in north beach. Afternoon humidity averages around 70%, but is higher during the morning. Temperatures are fairly even throughout the year with mornings sunnier than the afternoons.

The long rainy season falls between late October and early May through rain occurs through out the year. Rain tends to come in short heavy bursts, hut even during the rainy season it doesn’t rain every day. It rains on only a handful of days during the dry season from July to September.

Paragliding Indonesia Java Notes

  • All you need are some warm clothes and a good pair of boots.
  • People of both sexes and all ages take up the sport of paragliding.
  • You don’t have to be super fit to paraglide but you probably won’t enjoy it much if you are really unfit! There will be fair amount of walking up hills and the ground handling calls for some exertion especially in the early days, when the wings always seem to be fighting you.
  • Expect to be asked about health matters before you sign on at our partner Indonesian paragliding training school. Piloting and drugs do not mix. Your instructor will not let you fly if you have consumed alcohol that day, or if they suspect that you have taken drugs.
  • In any case, if you suffer from heart problems or epilepsy or any other medical condition, which may cause difficulty you should certainly consult your doctor first before signing up for a paragliding course.
