Rodrigues Island near Mauritius - Rodrigues Island is only 11 miles long & 5 miles across at its widest point. The Island is located in the Indian Ocean roughly 560 km Northeast of Mauritius. Rodrigues is named after the Portuguese explorer Diego Rodriguez and it forms part of the Mascarene Islands. Rodrigues Island is also a dependency of Mauritius. Rodrigues is a rugged and mountainous country and although modern life has brought sophistication and prosperity there is much that still remains unspoilt. The lagoons surrounded by beaches of silvery sand are truly a holidaymaker's dream.

  • Tourism is still in the very early stages on Rodrigues but the tourism infrastructure offers everything travellers from abroad would need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. As a travel destination Rodrigues is still a secret spot. No mass tourism and very friendly locals.
  • As on Mauritius the government tries to establish an environmental friendly approach to tourism. Port Mathurin is the administrative capital of the island and it is here that you will find most of the facilities that have developed in the last 20 years. There are some hotels, apartments, guesthouses and other tourist accommodations here that can service a limited number of tourists.
