Kitesurfing Perth Western Australia

Kitesurfing has been around Perth for about 5 years and has now really come of age with awesome control and safety systems. Extreme Sports Café’s partner Safety Bay Kite surfing School offers Kitesurfing lessons all year round. Just 40 minutes drive south from Perth are the popular windsurfing beaches of Safety Bay, Shoalwater Bay and Warnboro Sound. The shallow bays are great for kite surfing beginners and the reefs, islands and sandbars protect the sheltered waters providing ideal high-speed slalom conditions.

Safety Bay: There is a reason for the name. The on-shore conditions together with the sand spit create simply the best teaching and learning conditions possible for Kite surfing and wind surfing. The sand spit extends perpendicularly out from the beach for 500 metres. Windsurfers and kitesurfers are separated by this sand spit, with the Wind surfing to the left and kite surfing to the right. This means no one is getting in each other’s way. There is an established level of safety, organisation, and most of all, respect here.

  • The bay is perfect for learning because the safety of on-shore winds means no one’s getting blown out to sea.
  • You can also walk up the spit to get further up wind as you’re learning. This is especially perfect for the kiter learning to body drag. On the wind surfing side, the sand bar drops off quite quickly. Kitesurfing Perth Safety BayThis is especially useful to those windsurfers learning to carve or water start just metres from our instructors.
  • On the kite surfing side the sand bar slopes away very gently. This gives you a perfect waist to chest-deep area to learn in. Learning to body drag downwind is just so much fun and this make makes it simple and easy to get out and walk back up wind. The shallow bays are great for beginners as the reefs, islands and sandbars protect the sheltered waters providing ideal high-speed slalom conditions.
  • Penguin Island and Warnboro Sound challenge the more advanced sailors with long exhilarating runs over short steep chop and open ocean swell.

Kitesurfing Perth Safety Bay

Safety Bay is THE only shallow water teaching location in and around Perth (not to be confused with Shoalwater Bay). At Safety Bay we have the best Instructor-Customer interaction because we are there in the water with you the whole time. This speeds up your learning, which saves you money, increases your enjoyment and gets you out on the water sooner! It's a lot easier to learn kite control when you are not treading water at the same time and a lot safer to be flying full-size kites in waist-deep water rather than on land.

  • As a professional Kite surfing school our partner Perth Kite surfing School always have one eye on the wind forecast and will adjust the kite surfing lessons times to get you out in the best conditions possible. Kite surfing lessons times are from 10am to 6pm, 7 days per week.  The Kitesurfing School are also available for after-work sessions.

Extreme Sports Café’s partner Safety Bay Kitesurfing School is world-renowned for having the steady breeze only an ocean location can offer, along with the ease of waist-deep water so you stand up when you need to. This massively decreases your learning time saving you money and increasing your enjoyment. Due to the wrap-around effect of the Bay, the school are also able to operate in many more wind directions than the other schools, meaning you get your kite surfing lessons more often and when YOU want them.

  • A strong thermal sea breeze often referred to as the Fremantle Doctor arrives most afternoons during the summer months. Best sailing is from October to April with wind speeds normally around 15 to 25 knots. When the wind doesn't turn up there are many other attractions to suit the visitor. These include diving, sailing, recreational boat and jetty fishing, vast stretches of white sandy beaches, swimming with wild dolphins, visiting the sea lions and penguins on the nearby islands. Kitting is best done early and late in the season.
