Over 170,000 years old, this fossil shows how people have been coming to this town for a lot longer than we thought! Even a pair of bindings were found close by, so perhaps she was a wakeboarder!

10Hrs IKO Beginner Kitesurfing Course R2,185
This Introduction to Kiteboarding is designed for beginners and is run over 2-3 days. The kite course consists of 3 sessions, which total 10 hours. The first session is on land and the other 2 are in the water.
You will be taught the basic skills which include:
- Basic kite flying with a foil kite
- Kite setup
- Equipment choice
- Safety procedures
- Weather awareness
- Body dragging skills
- Water re-launching
- Water start
Please remember that everyone learns at different speeds, so how far you get on the kite course depends on your individual ability. Generally students gain an IKO L2 certification after this kite course.
- The weather cannot be guaranteed and your kite surfing lessons may take place in anything from 10 knots to 25 knots. Your kite Instructor will provide suitable kite equipment according to the conditions.
- On completion of your Kitesurfing Beginner course, you will receive IKO certification according to your level. (IKO = International Kite boarding Organization)
- If you are keen to continue with Kite boarding after your beginner course you are strongly advised to take further lessons to help you progress your skills quickly and safely.
- One to One lessons are the most effective way to continue as your Instructor can provide you 100% attention.
- For those under 16 years of age we ask that at least 1 parent takes the course to ensure they also fully understand the safety aspects and potential power of these kites.

Kite surfing equipment hire is available for Board only. The Kite center do not hire out kites. There are Gaastra and North Kites For Sale in the kite Shop.

Airport - Extreme Sports Cafe's partner South Africa Kitesurfing Center are situated in the heart of the West coast of Southern Africa in Langebaan situated on the edge of the West Coast National Park. Cape Town International Airport is an easy hour and a half's drive from Langebaan. Winds - The wind direction in the summer months is side shore and wind statistics show that from October to March there are 20 – 25 wind days with over 20 knots per month. From November through to February expect some days of up to 35 knots.
- Sunny days and cool evenings. Water temperature between 16 - 22 °C depending on the tide. A 3mm/2mm wetsuit or warmer is is required in the lower part of the lagoon or a shortie up at the top shallow section of the lagoon.
- In the early mornings it is amazing to rent a sea kayak and venture onto the lagoon and see all the birds, seals, penguins and sea life around you.

Kite Boarding Certification - All Extreme Sports Cafe Kitesurfing / Kiteboarding courses follow the IKO (International Kitesurfing Organization) assessment system. (unless stated otherwise) Our kitesurf instructors are IKO qualified and at the end of each course students will receive a kitesurfing IKO card with their achieved level. All the necessary kitesurfing equipment is provided for students (excluding food and drinks) and the kitesurf courses last between 4 and 5 hours per day depending on the wind conditions. Students are advised to wear a hat and apply sun-cream as they will be spending a lot of time in the sun. Students must be 16 years or older, although we can teach children under 16 to kitesurf, with their parent’s permission and presence.
