Extreme Sports Cafe's Brazil Kitesurfing adventure partners are located near the international airport in Fortaleza, Brazil. Direct flights are available from some European cities including Amsterdam and Lisbon. North Americans can now hop on the TAM flight from Miami connecting in Manaus and Belem before Fortaleza. It's a quicker route than Sao Paolo. It's best to book your travel 2-3 months in advance, when air fare sales may be available.
The northeast of Brazil from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara has some of the most consistent wind on the planet, due to the trade winds that arrive from Africa. With constant year round winds, kitesurfing is possible in any season. However, the best time is the second half of the year from July to January with peak months being August and September. The wind in Cumbuco averages around 18kts and in Paracuru averages 20kts. In and around Jericoacoara, the wind is typically 20-25kts in the morning, 25-30kts in the afternoon, with the occiasional 30kt+ day.
