Consistent winds, crystal clear, warm, sandy bottom water, and pristine beaches make Exuma in the Bahamas, one of the best kiteboarding spots. Conditions range from waist deep water for lessons, flat water, sandbar rollers, waves, and best of all, there are no crowds in Exuma. Join Extreme Sports Cafe's partner Exuma Kitesurfing School for a dream kitesurfing experience in the Bahamas.
Exuma is located in the southern Bahamas and stays warm during the winter cold fronts unlike the northern and central Bahamas (Andros, Bimini, Grand Bahama, Abaco, Eleuethera and Nassau/New Providence). Exuma gets a boost from the Trade Winds, combined with frontal winds, making the Exumas the windiest Bahamas kiteboarding destination.
- The Exuma Islands are divided into three major sections: Great Exuma, Little Exuma and The Exuma Cays. There are 365 cays on the north and south sides.
- Great and Little Exuma Islands are located about 120 miles southeast of Nassau/Paradise Island, connected by a bridge over a narrow channel known as “The Ferry.” The anchor of the Exumas archipelago is Great Exuma. Here, you’ll find the laid-back capital George Town and a great selection of casual Bahamian restaurants. Hotels here range from condo-resorts to locally owned fishing lodges.
- A short boat ride from Great Exuma Island is a barrier cay that protects the main island from the Atlantic. Many of the Exuma Cays are private, some operating as luxuriously exclusive private-island resorts and others the ultra-exclusive homes to the stars.
With beautiful blue water everywhere, the Exumas are a dream destination for those seeking the ultimate escape, and the new levels of luxury now available in both the Cays and Great Exuma Island are also a definite draw.
